CIR4FUN Consortium Advances Strategic Roadmap for Circular Furniture Revolution at Thessaloniki Assembly

THESSALONIKI, Greece – The Cir4Fun project, the three-year European initiative dedicated to transforming the furniture industry, successfully concluded its second General Assembly on October 15, 2025, following two days of strategic planning in Thessaloniki.

The meeting focused on moving the project from research theory to market reality. The consortium of 22 expert partners achieved decisive developments on the architectural framework for its key digital tools and construction of a roadmap for piloting innovative circular business models across Europe.

The Assembly successfully consolidated the project’s immediate next steps with three core activities.

The first was Co-creation Workshops, where the spirit of the work was best captured by a single keyword: co-creation. Two main co-designed sessions were held, where each partner contributed unique experience, valuable networks, and specialized knowledge, significantly enriching the discussions. The first session, led by Sonae, focused on ecosystem design, with the consortium mapping the entire furniture value chain to identify the different stakeholder clusters for initial engagement. OpenDot led the second workshop session with a dedicated focus on co-designing the 12 pilots that will serve as the project’s tangible outputs. This collaborative process ensures that the pilots are not only innovative but also practical, robust, and aligned with real-world market needs.

Following this, the team focused on Laying Technical Groundwork. Beyond high-level strategy, significant effort was dedicated to setting the foundation for the project’s core concepts. The team began to dive deep into the technical complexity required for successful implementation. These foundational discussions are critical for translating the ambitious vision into a concrete, technically sound reality, ensuring the project is prepared for the challenges ahead and can build its solutions on a solid technical footing.

Finally, the activity of Connecting the Dots reinforced the foundation for the project’s long-term development and sustainability. This ensures that every initiative is integrated and supports the collective goal, guaranteeing that the efforts will create a truly synergistic and impactful circular system.

What’s Next?

As the new year approaches, the Cir4Fun project will enter a new phase: implementation. The consortium is now positioned to transition from planning to action, with a clear focus on advancing technical development and formalizing the collaborative frameworks built during the assembly.
